The company released its monthly streaming report, The Gauge, on Tuesday, saying viewers watched 4.6 billion minutes outside banks after the release of Season 3 in February – more than any other streaming show. Also on Netflix, You a total of 3.6 billion watched minutes for the month. As always, Nielsen did not break down advertising by season.

Streaming on Netflix accounted for about 7.3% of total TV usage in March, similar to February. Disney+ also had a similar share of TV usage compared to February (1.8%), making it the second most-watched series of the month. The Mandalorian attracted more than 3.6 billion viewing minutes.

In terms of streaming, Pluto TV also saw the biggest increase in usage at 4.6%, increasing the total TV share to 0.8%. Pou usage rose to 3.1%, reaching a platform high of 1.1% of total TV usage.

Streaming viewership fell overall in March, but still ended the month with the largest share of TV usage at 34.1%.

TV usage actually fell 2% in March, which Nielsen says is pretty much in line with seasonal trends. Total TV usage decreased by 4.6% compared to the same period last year. Cable was the only category to see an increase in viewership, which shouldn’t be surprising since the NCAA men’s basketball tournament aired throughout the month. This was the first monthly increase in cable viewers since August.

Viewership for this year’s March Madness, especially the finals, was slightly down on last year. This may explain why, despite the increase in cable use, the category was still down 13.7% from the same point last year.

Programs accounted for 23.3% of TV usage in March, down 4.4% from February and around 4% from a year earlier. In fact, the Oscars led to a 153% increase in the awards/ceremony genre, which accounts for just over 1% of viewers in the program category. Nielsen attributes 30.5% to the “Genre General Drama” for most shows.
