Ukraine loses a brave warrior. Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, announced on Twitter that Maksym Galinichev, who was a great hope for boxing in his country, died at the age of just 22: “European junior boxing champion Maksym Galinichev, 22, died while defending Ukraine in the Luhansk region. Maksym had volunteered twice and returned to the front after recovering from his injuries. This is the eternal memory of the hero.“The young boxer who took part in the war against Russia is said to have died at the front on March 10 while defending the self-proclaimed Russian region of Luhansk, which has been grappling with fierce fighting since the beginning of the conflict.
Maksym Galinichev has won numerous medals in the youth categories, including a gold medal at the 2017 European Junior Championships and a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, in his junior career that started at the age of 10 on his father’s initiative. He won the silver medal at the 2021 European Under-22 Championships in Buenos Aires. According to the Ukrainian government, last year Maksym Galinichev, the father of a 3-year-old daughter, refused to participate in the European Boxing Championships in Armenia, preferring to volunteer to be part of the airborne assault troops.
