EXCLUSIVE: Cyle Zezo, who oversaw alternative programming at The CW, is leaving broadcasting.
Zezo, who was VP and head of alternative and digital programming at The CW, is leaving the network after nine years.
His departure was somewhat expected after former NBCUniversal CEO Heather Olander was tapped to lead his foray into unscripted. Zezo goes into production.
“Cyle is following his passion of being a producer,” a spokesperson for The CW told Deadline. “He will continue to produce many unscripted shows for The CW and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”
Before The CW was acquired by Nexstar and former Pop TV exec Brad Schwartz was hired as president of entertainment, Zezo worked closely with Gaye Hirsch, who was EVP, Development, and left in February as part of a round of layoffs.
Prior to the Nexstar acquisition, Zezo oversaw a tripling of unscripted programming hours with programs such as Penn & Teller: Fool us, whose line is it anyway? And unlock secrets. He also oversaw specials such as the Critics’ Choice Awards, iHeartRadio Music Festival and iHeartRadio Jingle Ball, and acquired international content such as The Great Chocolate Show And killer camp
He started his career at APA, joining the company in 2014 and working his way up from Coordinator before becoming Manager, Director and VP.
He is also a member of the Hollywood Climate Summit Advisory Board.
