Shakira wasn’t going to let her record-breaking final song have a “very tough year” ahead of her.
The 46-year-old music star sat down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show and said, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol.
“The thing about this song is that it has become an anthem for many women. I had a very difficult year after leaving and it was very important for me to write this song.”she said, implying that she had split from her husband, Gerard Pique, in June 2022.
“It’s a healthy way to channel my emotions.”
The song helped Shakira set 14 Guinness World Records, and the lyrics seem to imply the breakup, the aftermath, and Pique’s current girlfriend, 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti. Singing there”You say you’re a champion / And when I need you / You did your worst.”
Shakira told Jimmy Fallon. “I have a community of women who experience the same things as me, think like me, feel what I feel, and have to endure a lot like me.
“And you know, I wrote this song for myself”, she added. “But I also feel like it should – and probably for many women who need a platform and a voice to represent themselves in so many ways.”
Shakira sings in the chorus of her latest global hit with Bizarrap: “I wish you luck with my supposed backup / I don’t even know what happened to you”she is singing. “I’m 22 twice / You traded Ferrari for Twingo / You traded Rolex for Casio / Go fast, slow down / You spend a lot of time in the gym but your brain needs some work too.”
