“Saturday Night Live” Tribute to Richard Belzer

Actor and comedian Richard Belzer was remembered Saturday night live with a special posthumous title card on February 19.

Belzer died at the age of 78 due to unspecified circulatory and respiratory diseases.

Belzer was the warm-up comedian for Saturday night live and appeared in supporting roles on a number of occasions in the early seasons. The series’ premiere episode, which aired on October 11, 1975, also featured Belzer as a judge in an uncredited role. In Season 2, Belzer stood in for Chevy Chase for one episode while Chase underwent surgery.

He is best known for his portrayal of Detective John Munch in murder: life on the street, a police drama series that debuted in 1993. After murder packed, he started playing Munch Law and order: SVUa role that lasted 20 seasons.

In addition, for a long time SNL Producer designer Eugene Lee was also commemorated with a title card on Saturday. The show’s production designer, who won six Emmys since 1975, died on February 6 after a brief illness. He turned 83.

As a production designer of SNL Since the year of its debut, Lee has been the longest-serving member of the NBC show’s production team. He was also a production designer for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon from 2014-2018 and numerous SNL Specials, among his many achievements.

Throughout his career, Lee has been nominated for 18 Emmys and won 6, including consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Artistic Direction for Variety or Nonfiction Programming.
