Sex Education star Emma Mackey is leaving the Netflix series after season 4

Emma Mackey says goodbye Sex education after four seasons. While attending the BAFTA Awards, where she won the Rising Star Award, the Netflix star announced that she was leaving the series and would not be returning for a possible fifth season.

“Season 5? I just finished fourth last week! she said Radio Times. “No, I don’t think I’m in season 5. I said goodbye to Maeve.”

Mackey previously revealed that she would take a step back in Season 4 and that her character would reportedly not be as overbearing.

“It feels very familiar! And it’s a little more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s … I’m not that consistent with it,” she said before filming Season 4. “But we’re right in the middle of filming now and I’m excited to be back. And yes, I’m excited to see what will happen – because I don’t know either. I’ll find out along the way too, so it’ll be fun!”

Mackey is not alone Sex education Star exiting the series after season 4. Ncuti Gatwa, who also stars with Mackey in Greta Gerwig’s film Barbierecently finished filming his character Eric.

“Last day. Last time. Bye Bubs, thanks for everything and for all the strength,” he shared in an Instagram post.

Gatwa’s next television role will be the 15th Doctor in the long-running series Doctor who Series.

Season 4 of Sex education also saw a large cast with several actors leaving the series, including Rakhee Thakrar, Tanya Reynolds, Patricia Allison and Simone Ashley.
