Founded in 1947, the British Academy of Film and Television Art, or BAFTA, is a ceremony that annually awards the UK’s greatest achievements in the fields of film, television or video games.
In addition to the best of world cinema, the BAFTAs honor British contenders with two special awards: “Best British film” and the second one entitled “Extraordinary first steps by a British screenwriter, director or producer”.
This year, there will be many people on the red carpet, especially the crews of the films that were nominated again, and the actors who were nominated for the best performance award. The names of the nominees for this 76th edition were announced on January 19. A nomination largely dominated by the feature film “In the West, nothing new”, with the record for the most nominated film in a foreign language in the history of the competition (14 quotes). It is followed by “Les Banshees d’Inisherin” and “Everything all at once” with 10 nominations, respectively. In the biography of the king “Elvis” is not far behind with 9 nominations.
As for the best interpretation award nominees, we find Cate Blanchett among the favourites, for her role as the avant-garde chef in the beautiful feature film “Tar”. Next to her are Violas Davis, Danielle Deadwyler, Ana de Armas, Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh. The cast includes Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Daryl McCormack, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy.
All these beautiful people will meet at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday, February 19th to attend the coronation of the best performances of the year in cinema.
