Married At First Sight’s Shannon Adams revealed the selfish reason he made cruel comments to wife Caitlin McConville on Sunday night’s episode.
The 30-year-old personal trainer told Caitlin that she “didn’t look good in his eyes” during an intimacy session on Tuesday.
During the wedding ceremony, relationship expert John Aiken asked Shannon, “Why did you feel the need to say all those things to Caitlin?”
“I don’t really have an answer for you… I just said that to hurt her. I’m really sorry I did that. I’m devastated,” he replied.
“I’m really sorry, but I want to stay,” Shannon added, before announcing his decision to stay in the experiment.

John then asked, “Shannon, you’re not talking very rationally. Why do you want to stay after the brutal treatment?”
“I don’t want to give up,” Shannon said.
“You were 100 percent focused on giving up this week. It’s clear that you tried to push her away and hurt her at every opportunity. Why should we believe you now that you’re going to change?’ John wondered.
Shannon explained: “I have to listen to her and pay attention to what she says. I actually want one more week so we can finish it as friends.
“I’d love to hug her but I’d have to take baby steps and I don’t really think she’d want that because I’m a monster.”

On Tuesday night’s episode, Shannon cruelly told Caitlin that she “didn’t look right at his eyes.”
After the eye-gazing task, Caitlin felt that Shannon had “done a 180” and was “emotionally distant,” so she decided to confront him about it.
When she asked Shannon what had changed, he said, “You’re a pretty girl, but not in my eyes.
“I thought you were going to come down that hallway and blow my mind.”
“I don’t really have an answer for you… I just said that to hurt her. I’m really sorry I did that. I’m devastated,” he replied
He then said that if Caitlin courted him, he would have broken up with his ex from the start.
Caitlin was too “stunned” to react at the time, but after processing it all, she burst into tears.
“I’m sick,” she called to the cameras.
“This whole speech was about me not being good enough. I feel like I’m going to tear apart.”
He later said: “I’d love to hug her but I’d have to take baby steps but I don’t really think she would because I’m a monster.”
