Netflix is teaming up with Spain’s top soccer league, LaLiga, on a documentary series modeled on it Formula 1: fight for survival.
The series, which is currently in pre-production, follows the upcoming 2023/24 LaLig season which will feature club giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Details about the doc are scarce, but the series is the first sports series that Netflix has produced in Spain.
“Similar to Netflix’s growing portfolio of sports programming, such as Formula 1: fight for survival And breaking point, The series will look at everything that goes on behind the scenes of the professional football league and the more personal stories of one of the most watched leagues in the world,” said the streamer.
A Netflix representative said no further details would follow at this time, keeping the doc’s title, director and producer under wraps for now.
For LaLiga, news comes the same week that it has teamed up with Banijay Iberia to launch LaLiga Studios. The company will produce content for LaLiga, clubs, sponsors and broadcasters, stating that it will “collaborate with international platforms and brands in the development, production and distribution” of genres such as documentaries and fiction.
However, LaLiga Studios is not believed to be behind the Netflix show.
