It was really a story in two halves. But if the first half was the worst time for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the second half was the best time. They rallied from a 24-14 deficit to beat the Eagles 24-11 when Mahomes caught fire.
Mahomes recovered from what appeared to be a game-ending injury late in the first half and became his regular superstar self. He picked the Eagles apart, helped by some big plays from his team and a defense that suddenly figured out how to pin down Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Harrison Butker finished with a 27-chick field goal to secure the win.
Mahomes finished 21 of 27 passing for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns. He added 44 yards on the ground, won the MVP and established himself as one of the NFL’s greatest.
The Eagles’ Jalen Hurts dominated the first half, finishing with 304 yards passing, 70 rushing and 3 touchdowns, the latter of which set the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl record quarterback Terrell Davis.
But it wasn’t enough to fend off Mahomes and the Chiefs, who were helped by a 65-yard punt return from Kadarius Toney (a Super Bowl record) and the hard running of rookie Isiah Pacheco, who ‘ scored a touchdown and piled up 76 yards. . on a tough Eagles defense averaged 5.1 yards per carry.
