HBO has planned to premiere the fourth season of the Emmy-winning drama series on Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. successor. We also get a preview of the upcoming season in a new teaser trailer. You can watch it above.
The teaser continues after the season 3 finale, when patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) betrayed his grown children. In the trailer, Siobhan (Sarah Snook) says, “It’s not about going back to Dad, but if it hurts him, I don’t care.” Kendall (Jeremy Strong) adds, “It’s a tightrope walk on a razor blade… 500 feet of loss of reputation.”
Created by Jesse Armstrong, successor explores issues of power and family dynamics through the eyes of patriarch Logan Roy (Cox) and his four grown children, Kendall (Strong), Siobhan (Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Connor (Alan Ruck).
In Season 4, the sale of the media conglomerate Waystar Royco to the technological visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) is getting closer and closer. The prospect of this seismic sale fuels existential angst and family divisions among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is finalized. A power struggle ensues as the family contemplates a future in which their cultural and political influence is severely limited.
Season 4 newcomers include Annabeth Gish, Adam Godley, Eili Harboe and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson. The returning cast includes Harriet Walter (Lady Caroline Collingwood), James Cromwell (Ewan Roy), Natalie Gold (Rava Roy), Caitlin Fitzgerald (Tabitha), Ashley Zukerman (Nate Sofrelli), Larry Pine (Sandy Furness), Mark-Linn Baker. (Maxim Pierce) and Pip Torrens (Peter Munion).
Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, J. Smith-Cameron, Peter Friedman, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Dagmara Domińczyk, Arian Moayed, Scott Nicholson, Zoë Winters, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Juliana Canfield and Jeannie Berlin as well Star. Other cast members include Skarsgård, Cherry Jones, Hope Davis, Justin Kirk and Stephen Root.
The first three seasons of successor received 48 Emmy nominations and 13 wins, including Outstanding Drama Series, for its second and third seasons. The third season, which began in October 2021, received the SAG Award for Drama Ensemble and won at the WGA, DGA and PGA.
Armstrong is executive producer and serves as showrunner. Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy and Will Ferrell also serve as executive producers.
