Trump and White House Attack CNN Reporter Kristen Holmes

U.S. President Donald Trump and White House officials launched an unusually sharp verbal attack on Monday against CNN correspondent Kristen Holmes in the Oval Office.

The clash occurred during a question and answer session with journalists while Trump was hosting a hero lifeguard in the presidential office. Holmes initially asked the president to comment on remarks made by Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff during a campaign event in Georgia.

Oval Office Exchange

Ossoff accused Trump of paying more attention to his personal business and private relationships than his official duties. The senator claimed that the president preferred to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie, referring to presidential assistant Natalie Harp, who American media reports frequently observe by his side.

Trump did not offer a substantive answer when Holmes first pressed him on Ossoff's comments. However, as the news conference continued, the president reacted angrily when Holmes attempted to ask a follow up question about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump repeatedly told the reporter to be quiet and said she was making too much noise. He called CNN fake news, labeled Holmes a fake reporter, and stated that she was being loud and disrespectful in front of the young lifeguard visiting the White House.

White House Online Backlash

The exchange sparked wider condemnation from presidential staff online. The presidential Rapid Response 47 team posted a statement on social media platform X, calling Holmes a disgraceful and humiliating embarrassment to her profession.

The team accused the network correspondent of taking a cheap shot regarding a presidential staffer while the president hosted a guest, describing members of the press as scumbags and the lowest of the low.

In a separate message, Rapid Response 47 stated that Holmes's children would eventually read her disgusting and inhumane question, adding that they would be sickened and embarrassed to have a parent who was so callous and vindictive.

. @KristenhCNN: Someday, your children will come across your disgusting and inhumane question. They will be sickened and embarrassed to have a parent be so callous and vindictive. It's quite troubling.

Network Response and Defence

CNN Communications issued an official response on X defending its reporter against the administration's verbal attacks.

The network stated that public officials are free to challenge reporting they disagree with, but argued that personal attacks on journalists for asking questions are beneath their offices and run counter to principles of press freedom. CNN added that it stands firmly behind Holmes and rejects the attacks in the strongest possible terms.

Trump, an 80-year-old billionaire businessman, has a long history of aggressive exchanges with reporters, particularly female journalists covering his administration.

Aides Attack Democratic Senator

Ossoff's campaign comments also triggered harsh reactions from senior White House communications officials directed at the Georgia senator.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared the clip of Ossoff's speech on X and launched a derogatory tirade against the lawmaker. Cheung called Ossoff a pathetic person and a radical, extremist Democrat who hates the country, suggesting the senator look into his soul to understand why he is miserable instead of denigrating hard-working public servants.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle also criticized the senator on social media, referring to Ossoff as a lightweight politician. Ingle described Ossoff as engaging in feminine theatrics and imitating former President Barack Obama, asserting that no one cares about the senator's statements.
