California designer Steve Kozloff has designed Trident, a 328-foot (100 m) trimaran yacht concept valued between $330 million and $400 million. The vessel resembles the three-pronged spear of the Greek god Poseidon and uses two giant rigid sails to cross the ocean.
The multihull vessel features two angled rigid sails that reach a height of 228 feet (72 m) above the water. Each mast can rotate a full 360 degrees to maximize wind energy.
Tilting Masts and Bridge Clearance
To navigate restricted waterways, both independent masts can tilt 70 degrees forward. This movement reduces the air draft, measuring the distance from the water surface to the highest point of the boat, from 228 feet (72 m) down to 138.5 feet (42 m). The reduced height allows the ship to pass under most bridges.
The vessel is also equipped with a cargo loading and unloading system. Trident is the latest concept model in the Kozloff Goliath series of folding sailing yachts, which includes other concepts such as Glory and Galleon.
Interior Design and Accommodations
Steve Kozloff designed the handcrafted interior using maple and aluminum across six decks. The living space covers 5,100 square feet (474 square meters) and features large windows for panoramic views.
A grand piano bar and lounge on the upper deck serves as the main center of the boat. A red walkway connects this central hub to other sections of the vessel.
The owner suite offers 682 square feet (64 square meters) of space on the side of the structure. VIP suites and 10 cabins accommodate up to 20 guests and crew members across supporting structures.
Helicopters, Swimming Pools, and Submarine
The main exterior structure includes additional cabins to expand space and a full-beam beach club. The beach club features spas in the main building, including one on the front section and another on the rear transparent section.
On the elevated area, the vessel houses two helicopters and two swimming pools. A full-beam garage provides space for two tenders, a U-Boat Worx Nemo submarine, and other water toys.
Hybrid Propulsion and Range
Under sail power alone, Trident reaches a speed of 12 knots (14 mph). The trimaran is also equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system that provides a maximum speed of 17 knots.
