‘60,000 Brits’ consider moving to Oz after being wooed with promises of more sun, money and SEX – as Australian minister boasts ‘We’re the new love island’

Thousands of Britons are considering moving to Australia after being lured by the promise of more sun, money and sex.

So far, 60,000 have expressed interest, with Australian minister Paul Papalia boasting: “We are the new island of love.”

Papalia is leading a delegation of West Australians on a nine-day tour of the UK with the aim of recruiting 30,000 Britons to work in the state’s public sector in a range of sectors including police, hospitals and hospitality.

The delegation is also looking for doctors, teachers and civil engineers.

Papalia said: “If you’re a single Brit, get out because you might not be single for long.”

He said of the country’s merits: “It’s a lower cost of living, higher wages and nice weather. What’s not to like?’

One of the King’s constables, who was on duty outside Horse Guards Parade, was reportedly tempted by a massive starting salary of £51,000 a year.

Papalia said the nation was “getting ours back” after decades of Aussies moving to the UK.

He said: “You brought along some of our best and brightest. And there was never a question of losing our children to Britain.”

The recruitment of new police officers is a particular concern of Papalia.

He is accused of fulfilling a campaign promise to hire an additional 950 officers to the WA Police Department by 2021.

There are currently 6,811 police officers – 300 less than in 2021.

Papalia told The Times newspaper he was shocked by the UK police’s resource problems and pay gap.

‘The content [in the UK] is much lower, conditions are worse, and resources look much worse. So there are all kinds of reasons for that [WA is] attractive,” he says.

More than 800 British police officers have applied for a job in Australia, according to The Times.

Recruits, who must have at least three years’ experience, start at around £50,000, compared with £30,000 for a British agent with five years’ experience.

The first year is expected to begin training in September.

Almost 1.2 million UK-born people lived in Australia at the end of June 2020, down 1.3 per cent (15,220) from 30 June 2010, according to Australia’s Home Office.

The ministry said this makes it the largest migrant community in Australia, accounting for 15.3 per cent of Australia’s foreign-born population and 4.6 per cent of Australia’s total population.

Men made up 50.8 per cent of UK-born migrants in Australia. The average age of 57.9 years was 20.2 years older than that of the general population.
