200 rooms and an environment that doesn’t invite you to stay in a suite, no matter how beautiful. The Madrid Edition joins the list of hotels in the capital, and it does so with a contemporary and design proposition that bets on gastronomy and style, being treated almost like a work of art, something they do in all their hotels.
Ian Schrager, Creator of Studio54behind “The Edition,” a hotel brand co-created with Marriott With hotels in Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, London, Barcelona, New York or Turkey, their five-star hotel, The Bodrum EDITION, is on the Yalikavak Bay and overlooking the Turquoise Coast. Its most recent opening is the one in Madrid, which is a tribute to the design we love.
How is the Madrid Edition
On the Plaza de las Descalzas, the hotel stands on the site of Monte de Piedad’s headquarters. The hotel was designed by British architect John Pawson and artist-born François Champsaur. in Paris.
The exterior of the building is characterized by its modern, clean lines that contrast with the 18th-century baroque portico, the side entrance to one of the hotel’s restaurants, Jerónimo. This porch designed by Pedro de Ribera used to belong to a nearby building and is now the first surprise we encountered before entering.
We reach through the main gate of the hotel. the iconic staircase, which is the common point of all the hotels in the chain. In the Madrid example, it is made of plaster and has 23 steps that rotate in a spiral covered with beige marble.

This staircase leads to the lobby, a magnificent room with undulating ceilings that is the hotel’s nerve center. The most striking feature of the lobby, with sofas and armchairs by Jean Michel Frank, recycled bronze stools by Maison Intègre and rope chairs by Christian Astuguevieille, Pool table designed from one piece by Emmanuel Levet Stenne White marble.

Downstairs is a waterless spa, described by the hotel as “a cozy and intimate space clad in dark wood and adorned with old baroque chandeliers.” We can also give ourselves mud baths and massages, among other treatments..
Rooms of “Madrid The Edition”

Rooms, 177 rooms, 21 suites and two Penthouse suites, all with custom-made plaster headboards, are reminiscent of the baroque portico at the side entrance. Views to the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral and to Gran Via depending on the room.
One detail we liked was this. no single use plastic in rooms and the keys to the rooms are made of wood.

Hidden gastronomy in “Madrid The Edition”
You don’t need to stay at a hotel to enjoy its gastronomy. beside Private cocktail bar called Punch Roomand Sky Bar with terrace on the roof (Madrid has an outdoor pool where you say “yes, I do” in August) has two restaurants run by chefs Enrique Olvera and Diego Muñoz.
Jeronimo, Mexico canteen
Chef Enrique Olvera, who runs this restaurant, where we met Mexican before leaving Madrid. Baroque portico is entered. and it’s a burst of color in textiles, Dorfer is covered with a bar of green stone and an area covered with oak.

Oroya, Japanese Asian restaurant
It was led by Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz and located on the roof of the hotel This restaurant mixes steel structures with climbing facilities, glass panels and a cozy offering full of flavor. Particularly suitable for sharing, its menu is full of influences traveling from Spain to Japan through Africa, Italy or Peru.
