That? found that those who booked a summer 2023 holiday package between 1 November 2022 and 3 January this year paid an average of 19 per cent more than the year before.
When which? compared average prices for a week’s holiday in six popular destinations – Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Turkey and Cyprus – and found that Greece saw the strongest increases, followed by Italy.
A seven-day stay in Greece costs an average of 30 per cent more than in 2022, with an average price of £867 per person for the summer of 2023.

According to data from Travelsupermarket.com, the average cost of a package holiday in Italy increased by 23 per cent to £757, while the price of a holiday in Turkey rose by 21 per cent to £799.
Meanwhile, the cost of a package holiday in Spain has risen by 20 per cent to £693 – but despite the sharp rise in average costs, it still offers the cheapest short breaks. Which one? Comments.
At the lower end of the scale, the price of a package holiday to Cyprus is 15 per cent to £809.

However, of the six popular destinations surveyed by Consumer Champion, Portugal saw the smallest price rises, with the cost of a package holiday rising by an average of 7 per cent to £705.
That? also looked at flight and hotel data to see how much those who choose to organize their own travel could spend on a holiday this year.
Flights saw the most notable increases, the watchdog noted, with Easter prices on average 51 percent higher than in 2022.
Using data from fare analyzer Skytra, which? analyzes direct flight prices to 15 popular destinations in Spain, France, Italy, Greece and the US from six of the UK’s busiest airports.
It found that flights to Italy and Greece saw the biggest increases, with fares rising by as much as 71 percent in both cases. More bad news for travelers’ wallets: flights to France rose 45 percent and flights to Spain rose 38 percent.

The US, with the highest average fare of £1,527 per seat, saw the smallest price increase at 31 per cent. In general, which? says air fares have increased on 63 of the 69 monitored routes compared to last year.
Looking at the data provided by Kayak, which? also compared the average price for booking three- and four-star hotels in Easter 2022 and Easter 2023.
On average, hotel prices in the UK rose by almost a fifth (19 per cent) from £100 to £119, with many hotels not only facing higher electricity bills but also higher wages due to staff shortages.
Meanwhile, hotel prices outside the UK and Europe rose by up to 23 per cent on average, from around £138 by Easter 2022 to an average of £170 by Easter this year.
That? says European interest rates have seen the smallest rises, averaging 10 per cent from £108 in 2022 to £119 this year, bringing them in line with average UK rates.

In general, for those who can plan ahead, which? recommend booking early to secure the best price.
Rory Boland, editor of which?, commented on the results. Reis, said: “Travelers are likely to face significantly higher prices than they are used to for long-haul travel this year, with massive holiday demand combining with inflationary pressures to create the perfect storm of rising costs.
“Flights in particular have seen some of the sharpest price increases, with our research showing that flights to popular destinations including Greece and Italy are up 71 per cent year-on-year. If you need to book a specific destination or appointment, e.g. B. During the summer holidays, book as early as possible to get the best price.
“Even opting for an all-inclusive holiday can be worth considering as you’ll be protected against currency fluctuations and have the peace of mind that expenses such as food and drink are already covered. If you’re flexible about where and when you go, you can still get deals all year round, so it’s worth shopping there.’
