Sunoco Gas Station Offers 20% Fuel Discount for Dancing

The Sunoco & Halfmoon Car Wash gas station in Halfmoon, New York, is giving customers a 20 percent discount on fuel for dancing. The owners introduced the temporary one-week promotion to help drivers cope with record fuel prices in the United States, according to the Washington Post.

To receive 20 percent off a full tank of fuel, drivers must perform a few dance steps in front of employees inside the store. Management said the promotion could be extended after seeing positive reactions from customers.

Fuel prices in the region reached record highs of about 4 dollars per gallon, which equals 3.785 liters. That works out to roughly 0.91 euros per liter, a level that appears low to consumers in France but represents a very high cost for American motorists. Paulina Sirtori, a spokesperson for the store, said filling up can be a discouraging experience, but entering the store for the promotion brings smiles back to customers.

Customer Dance Performances and Reactions

William Dorrough, a 66-year-old regular customer who has used the station and car wash for many years, noticed the promotion on an unusual sign inside the store. The sign asked customers if they wanted a discount and invited them to show their best dance moves. Encouraged by the store manager after initial hesitation, Dorrough hummed a tune, moved his hips, made circular arm motions, and bounced near the floor with extended arms.

Dorrough said after his performance that it was fun to give people something to laugh at while earning a discount. He added that regular customers are hoping the store extends the offer so they can dance again and make people smile.

Other motorists also joined in to claim the discount. Customer Daniel Ryan tried beatboxing during his dance and said returning to the car afterwards put drivers in a better mood to return to work. Another female customer chanted that she was dancing for the discount as she completed her routine.
