Tatiana Mironova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of Outpatient Therapy at the Institute of Clinical Medicine of Pirogov University, clarified that seed husks cause acute appendicitis rather than sunflower seeds themselves.

Speaking to news outlet Lenta.ru, Mironova refuted the popular myth that seeds clog the intestines. She explained that while husks can cause acute appendicitis, seeds contain vitamins B and E, magnesium, zinc, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, plant protein, and fiber.
Daily limits and health risks
Despite these nutritional benefits, Mironova recommended consuming no more than 30 grams of seeds per day. She explained that seeds are high in calories, and overeating them can trigger heartburn, gastritis attacks, and biliary system disorders, while salted seeds can cause fluid retention and high blood pressure.
In a previous statement, Candidate of Medical Sciences Victoria Gonchar, an endocrinologist and gastroenterologist, advised Russians to avoid standard white bread made from wheat flour and yeast, calling it a practically useless product.
