Actor Stephen Amell has teased a return to his role as Oliver Queen in Arrow after posting a video from Florence, Italy, on Instagram.
The post comes six years after the DC Comics series finished its eighth and final season. Amell shared the clip after attending the Gigacon Tuscany event in Florence on Saturday.
In the video, the Canadian actor highlighted a pencil sketch on a restaurant wall depicting a hooded archer under a phrase asking if anyone had seen that man. The camera then panned to Amell sitting on the outdoor terrace, where he briefly took off his cap, looked at the poster, and covered his face again while looking away.
Amell accompanied the post with the phrase "Just when I think I’m out…" alongside the official theme music from Arrow. In American slang, the phrase typically indicates that a person is retiring, ending a phase, or stepping away from an activity, creating an ironic double meaning that suggests he may be planning the opposite.
Potential return as Green Arrow
Amell has consistently expressed interest in playing Oliver Queen again. Director and screenwriter Zack Snyder recently reaffirmed his intention to create a faithful adaptation of the Frank Miller comic book The Dark Knight Returns, a storyline that features Green Arrow.
The actor is also set to star in a new television reboot of Baywatch.
A decade in the Arrowverse
Amell was cast in January 2012 to portray the DC Comics superhero. The role redefined his acting career and altered the television landscape, with Arrow earning critical acclaim and breaking network viewership records.
Between 2012 and 2013, Arrow became the flagship program for The CW, launching what television analysts consider a golden era for the network. The popularity of the show led to the creation of its first spin-off, The Flash, in 2014.
That expansion created the interconnected Arrowverse franchise, which later added shows including Legends of Tomorrow and the animated series Vixen. Amell served as the central figure and public face of the franchise throughout its run.
Voice work and career awards
Warner Bros. also hired Amell to voice the superhero in video games, including Injustice: Gods Among Us and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. His portrayal of the archer earned him multiple honors and award nominations, including nods at the Teen Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards, and Leo Awards.
