Sons of Anarchy Cast Reunites for Meta Series Legends

Original Sons of Anarchy cast members will reunite for Legends, a new meta miniseries greenlit by FX and created by Charlie Hunnam. The project brings together key actors from the motorcycle drama to play fictionalised versions of themselves facing real world danger.

Hunnam, who starred as Jax Teller in the original series, developed the project with FX for at least three years before signing on as creator, developer, executive producer, and lead actor. Writer Jonathan Groff has joined the production as showrunner, with FX Productions and 20th Television handling the series.

The miniseries reunites Hunnam with former co-stars Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi. FX plans to announce additional cast members as production progresses.

Premise and plot details

The narrative begins with the cast reuniting at a fan convention held more than a decade after the Sons of Anarchy series finale. What starts as a peaceful gathering of former colleagues turns dangerous as the boundary between fiction and reality begins to blur.

The group is forced to confront a real world threat far more dangerous than any conflict faced by their fictional characters on screen. By adopting a meta format where the actors play themselves, the production brings back key figures from the original series without altering past events.

Many main characters died during the seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy, including Hunnam's character Jax Teller, who suffered a fatal outcome in the final episode. By focusing on the actors in a real world setting, Legends avoids changing the established ending of the original show.

Production and creative background

Kurt Sutter, creator of the original Sons of Anarchy series, is not involved in the development or production of Legends. The project was initiated by Hunnam and developed directly with FX before Groff joined to manage the series.

FX has not announced a premiere date or confirmed the episode count for Legends. Further casting details remain unconfirmed as production plans are finalized.

Because Legends is an FX production, the miniseries is expected to stream on Disney+ in Spain. The streaming platform currently hosts all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy alongside its spin-off series.

Legacy of Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy originally aired for seven seasons between 2008 and 2017, following the lives of an outlaw motorcycle club. The show gained a widespread following for its depiction of biker culture, criminal business dealings, and dramatic soundtrack.

The series previously expanded its fictional universe through the spin-off Mayans M.C., which ran for five seasons. Legends represents the first meta-production within the franchise line.

Hunnam played Jax Teller throughout the original run alongside Sagal as Gemma Teller Morrow, Perlman as Clay Morrow, Siff as Tara Knowles, Flanagan as Filip Chibs Telford, Coates as Alex Tig Trager, Rossi as Juan Carlos Juice Ortiz, and Boone Junior as Robert Bobby Munson. FX, a division of Disney Entertainment, and 20th Television oversee the project.
