Singer Luis Miguel Achiri Magano, 38, was found dead on August 24 on a sports field in Espinar, a province in the Cusco region of southern Peru, following his attendance at a wedding.
Officers from the National Police of Peru arrived at the location, known locally as La Bombonera, after receiving an alert regarding an unresponsive individual. Police performed the official recovery of the body at the scene and immediately opened preliminary proceedings to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the musician's death.
Following a targeted search operation across several sectors of Espinar, police officers located and arrested 30-year-old Trino Aquima Cahua as the primary suspect in the fatal attack.
Suspect identified through security cameras
Investigators built the case by gathering witness testimonies and analyzing preliminary footage from local security cameras. The surveillance video helped law enforcement officers identify the principal suspect and trace his movements in the area.
During the arrest of Aquima Cahua, police officers confiscated mobile phones and additional physical items, which have been submitted for forensic analysis. Investigators confirmed that initial physical evidence collected at the site directly links the detainee to the crime scene where Achiri Magano was discovered.
Information released by police indicates that Achiri Magano was a professional musician who had attended a social gathering, believed to be a wedding ceremony, shortly before he was killed.
Fatal assault following verbal dispute
According to the police account, a dispute broke out after the social event ended. The verbal argument quickly turned physical, culminating in a violent attack on the singer.
Investigators determined that the assailant used a blunt object to strike the victim. Officers recovered a piece of wood from the scene, which has been logged as key physical evidence in the murder investigation.
Detectives are actively working to establish the underlying motive for the attack. Officers are also examining whether any prior personal or professional relationship existed between Achiri Magano and the suspect, while reconstructing the complete timeline of events leading up to the discovery of the body.

National Police Colonel Carlos Guizado commended the prompt action taken by local police units in Espinar. He noted that the swift initial response enabled officers to secure the area, gather critical evidence, and apprehend the suspect without delay.

The homicide case has been formally submitted to the Public Ministry. State prosecutors from the Fiscalía are working alongside the National Police to carry out complementary investigative tasks and assign formal criminal responsibility.
Trino Aquima Cahua remains in police custody under active investigation for the alleged crime of homicide. He will remain detained while judicial authorities evaluate the evidence and determine his legal status under Peruvian law.
