Sex and the City to Stream All 94 Episodes on Prime Video

Hit comedy series Sex and the City will be available in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video in Spain starting September 1, incorporating all 94 episodes into the streaming service standard plan.

The premiere marks a transition for the iconic franchise from traditional pay television networks to a global streaming catalogue, giving subscribers in Spain complete access to the full original run without additional fees.

First debuting in 1998 on the American cable network HBO, the show shifted away from conventional sitcom formats. It adapted the newspaper column of writer Candace Bushnell into an explicit and uninhibited exploration of single life, friendship, and romantic desire for women in their thirties.

Cast and Emmy Award Recognition

The series centers on the personal and professional dynamics of four women living in New York City. Sarah Jessica Parker stars as newspaper columnist Carrie Bradshaw, who crafts her relationship articles from the shared experiences of her close circle of friends.

Kim Cattrall plays corporate executive Samantha Jones, Kristin Davis portrays art gallery director Charlotte York, and Cynthia Nixon plays corporate lawyer Miranda Hobbes. Together, the group broke television taboos by openly discussing female sexual pleasure, workplace salary disparities, divorce, and voluntary single motherhood.

In 2001, Sex and the City became the first series produced for a cable channel to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. The production eventually earned seven additional Emmy statuettes and eight Golden Globe Awards during its broadcast run.

Fashion and Cultural Impact

Helmed by showrunner Darren Star, the production also functioned as a global fashion platform. Under the style direction of costume designer Patricia Field, Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe transformed luxury brands into cultural phenomena.

Luxury footwear from Spanish designer Manolo Blahnik achieved status as a cultural fetish, while the Baguette handbag by Italian fashion house Fendi became a widely recognized accessory. The show also established the Cosmopolitan cocktail and the Sunday morning brunch routine as recognizable symbols of modern urban lifestyle.

While contemporary critics have noted shortcomings in the show's handling of social diversity and dated plotlines, media historians agree that its impact on modern female representation on screen remains significant.

Franchise Expansion and Sequels

The popularity of the original series led to an expanded media franchise. Two feature films released in theaters in 2008 and 2010 continued the characters' stories, while a 2013 prequel series titled The Carrie Diaries explored the main character's teenage years.

More recently, the sequel series And Just Like That brought back most of the original main cast members to follow the characters navigating life in their fifties. The revival concluded its run after three seasons.

The addition of the foundational series to Prime Video gives audience members an opportunity to re-evaluate the early 2000s landmark show and its influence on modern television drama without relying on nostalgia.
