Seth Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, attended the Toronto International Film Festival this week to premiere two films they worked on together, with the actor, screenwriter and director saying he could not be happier about the collaboration.
The couple spoke to PEOPLE about the experience of bringing both projects to this year's festival. Miller directed her husband alongside co-star Anna Kendrick in the new film "Babies," while the pair also served as producers on the animated feature "Tangles," for which Rogen provides a voice.
Two premieres at the same festival
Miller said she was genuinely trying to enjoy the moment and felt very lucky and very happy about having two premieres at the same festival, one that takes place in her husband's home country of Canada.
Rogen agreed, saying it was wonderful and amazing to have the chance to work with people you love, to be proud of them and to be amazed by what they do. He added that having this happen twice at the same festival felt truly crazy.
The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most prominent film festivals in North America, drawing major studio releases and independent productions each September and often serving as an early launchpad for awards-season contenders.
A marriage that began in 2005
Rogen and Miller married in 2011 after meeting in 2005 through mutual friends. Over the years, Miller has appeared in several of her husband's comedies, including "Superbad," "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," "Observe and Report," "50/50" and "Sausage Party."
Rogen built his career largely on studio and stoner comedies, often working alongside his longtime writing and filmmaking partner, Evan Goldberg.
Miller's move into directing
Miller moved into directing in 2018 with "Like Father" and has now followed it with "Babies." In the new film, Rogen and Anna Kendrick play a married couple who temporarily take in a friend, played by Kate Berlant, and the friend's young daughter, while she stays at their home.
Kendrick is known for her roles in the "Pitch Perfect" film series and "Up in the Air," while Berlant has built a following as a stand-up comedian and actress.
An animated story about Alzheimer's
The couple also teamed up with Goldberg to produce "Tangles," an animated film centered on a young woman whose life is upended after her mother is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Rogen lends his voice to the project.
Goldberg has co-written and produced many of Rogen's best-known films and is a co-founder, with Rogen, of the production company behind much of their joint work.
