Public health expert Dr Samuel Martínez will officially present his new leadership book, Declara tu independencia, at the 2026 Santo Domingo International Book Fair in the Dominican Republic.
The presentation at the annual cultural festival, officially known as the Feria Internacional del Libro Santo Domingo (FILSD 2026), will feature interactive sessions between Martínez, readers and business professionals seeking to navigate complex work environments.
His agenda in the Dominican Republic also includes book signing events and public discussions focused on personal growth, change management and strategic execution.
Addressing professional stagnation
In Declara tu independencia, Martínez examines the operational challenges facing modern professionals, entrepreneurs and corporate executives. The work moves away from self-help narratives focused strictly on individual achievement.
Instead, the book encourages readers to break away from patterns of career stagnation. Martínez advocates for creating action plans grounded in personal responsibility, consistent execution and clarity of purpose.
The publication incorporates practical daily exercises and strategies designed to build high-performance habits and strengthen leadership capacities across diverse professional settings.
Decades of health crisis management
The core concepts of the book stem from Martínez's extensive background in managing complex operations, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and making high-stakes decisions under pressure.
Martínez spent more than three decades participating in the management of complex public health crises. During his career at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the federal public health agency, he led strategic programs and managed annual budgets exceeding 110 million dollars.
He now applies that operational experience to assist leaders and organizations attempting to adapt to increasingly dynamic and demanding environments.
Work in the Dominican Republic
Martínez maintains longstanding personal and professional links to the Dominican Republic. He is the child of parents who devoted their lives to practicing medicine and advancing community development across the nation.
Throughout his career, Martínez has contributed technical expertise to critical national public health initiatives in the country. His involvement included strengthening blood bank safety systems and supporting national responses to health emergencies.
