Writing on her personal blog on the Russian content platform Dzen, Ershova stated that Belize does not feel like a sterile tourist bubble where visitors can walk around without concern, count money in public, or carry phones openly in their hands.

She urged travelers to remain mindful of their surroundings, particularly in the evening, in quiet or secluded areas, and when traveling alone.

Despite her cautions, Ershova noted that she had walked alone during both the day and the evening without being robbed or kidnapped. She explained that safety levels varied significantly depending on the location, noting that while certain neighborhoods were peaceful, others should be completely avoided by tourists.

Ershova warned against openly displaying valuable items, jokingly describing tourists who walk with a phone in one hand, cash in the other, and a camera around their neck as effectively carrying a sign that announces they have all their valuables with them.

Street gang risks in Belize City

The blogger concluded that while Belize is not so dangerous that visitors must remain locked inside a vehicle, it is not safe enough for travelers to lower their guard. She highlighted that violent crime committed by street gang members occurs frequently in the southern district of Belize City.

Ershova added that official travel advisories explicitly urge travelers to reconsider visiting that part of the city.

Belize, situated on the Caribbean coast of Central America, is bordered by Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the west. Belize City, the historic former capital and largest population center, remains a primary hub for international visitors heading to the country's coastal cayes and barrier reef system.

Previous comments on local life

Ershova had previously commented on several aspects of daily life in Belize that she felt were missing in Russia. In an earlier post, she highlighted the country's comfortable climate, convenient geographic location, and the modesty of its local residents.
