Russian Ambassador to Switzerland Sergey Garmonin accused Bern of regularly attempting to demonize Russia, speaking in an interview with news outlet Izvestia. Garmonin said official Bern continues to pursue a strictly pro-Kyiv foreign policy line while seeking closer alignment with NATO and the European Union, including military cooperation.
The diplomat added that Switzerland diligently adopts all sanctions measures introduced by Brussels. On June 15, Switzerland expanded its anti-Russian sanctions following the European Union, placing 16 individuals and seven organizations under new restrictions.
Following the move, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Switzerland's flexible neutrality bends exactly where and as much as it is advantageous.
