Men frequently overlook the early warning signs of prostatitis, a specialist has warned, identifying three specific physical symptoms that require prompt medical evaluation.
Igor Kononkov, a urologist and andrologist at the SM-Clinic Reproductive Health Center, detailed the warning signals during an interview with Russian news outlet Lenta.ru. He emphasized that men often ignore initial indicators until the inflammatory condition becomes more advanced.
According to Kononkov, noticeable changes in urination patterns serve as one of the primary signals of prostatitis. He explained that men should take notice if they begin visiting the restroom more frequently, particularly during the first half of the day and overnight.
This increased frequency is typically accompanied by a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying and a weakened stream of urine, the doctor warned. He added that patients may also observe alterations in urine color and odor, as well as the presence of floating flakes, mucus, or noticeable cloudiness.

Pelvic Pain and Discomfort
A second major symptom identified by the urologist involves persistent or recurring discomfort throughout the pelvic area. Kononkov stated that this discomfort can present as intermittent, aching, or pulling pain across multiple regions of the lower body.
Specific locations affected by pelvic pain include the lower back, sacrum, lower abdomen, perineum, groin, and the inner thighs. The specialist pointed out that these painful sensations often become more pronounced after extended periods of sitting.
Sexual Dysfunction and Progression
As prostatitis progresses further, it can lead to noticeable complications in male sexual function, Kononkov warned. He noted that warning signs in this area include a diminished sex drive and instability when achieving or maintaining erections.
Men should also monitor any reduction in the frequency of spontaneous morning erections. In addition, the urologist indicated that experiencing pain or discomfort during ejaculation is a key indicator of underlying prostate inflammation.
Understanding Prostate Inflammation
Prostatitis is an inflammation or infection of the prostate gland, a small organ about the size of a walnut located directly beneath the bladder in men. The prostate gland forms an essential component of the male reproductive system, producing seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.
Although the condition can affect men of any age group, it is recognized as one of the most common urological issues among men under 50. Urologists emphasize that recognizing early warning signs allows for early diagnostic testing, helping patients avoid chronic pelvic pain syndromes and long-term reproductive complications.
