A severely injured dog returned on August 7 to the Porto Germeno home where he was cared for, one week after a destructive wildfire broke out in the area. The animal was found alive after making his own way back to the property.
Animal welfare organization Dogs’ Voice reported that the dog arrived exhausted and in serious condition, with severe burns on his paws. The dog received initial first aid at a local veterinary clinic following his arrival.
Dogs’ Voice stated that its team would transfer the animal to a clinic on August 8 for intensive medical care. The organization noted that as news coverage moves on and emergency stations close, missing animals begin to reappear as life slowly returns to normal.
Veterinary Care and Recovery
Dogs’ Voice said the dog found the strength to travel back to the place where he had felt safe prior to the fire. The group thanked its supporters for enabling rescuers to remain on the front line to assist affected animals.
The rescue group added that it would provide regular updates on the dog while wishing the animal a swift recovery.
