Pharmacist Thais Degani warned that failing to follow medicine storage rules puts treatment safety at risk, speaking in an interview with publication Terra.
Degani identified heat, humidity, and light as the main enemies of medications, warning that exposure to these elements can reduce their effectiveness. She urged people to store pharmaceutical drugs in a cool and dry location, while retaining the original packaging and instructions for use.
Degani added that first aid kits must be kept in a location inaccessible to children and domestic animals. She advised checking the kit every six months for expired medications and discarding any out of date items, noting that manufacturers no longer guarantee their effectiveness after expiry.
