Peru’s state oil company Petroperú has temporarily halted operations at its Talara refinery, with a restart not expected until August 5, the company announced on July 29.
The company cited two reasons for the stoppage. The first is a restriction on crude oil supply stemming from the company’s current liquidity conditions. The second is the temporary closure of port facilities in Talara Bay, ordered by the Port Authority due to abnormal wave conditions.
Petroperú said the coordinated, safe, and sequential shutdown of the refinery’s processing units began on the evening of July 28. It added that the maritime authority’s closure had prevented crude oil unloading operations since July 27, which coincided with a crude supply schedule already constrained by the company’s financial situation.
The company said that once maritime conditions improved and port facilities were authorized to reopen, estimated for July 31, it would proceed with unloading imported crude oil to rebuild inventories needed to restart processing units from August 5.
Separately, Petroperú disclosed to regulators that its board, meeting on July 30, approved the removal of Luis Morales García as corporate finance manager, with his last day on payroll recorded as July 30, 2026.
