An eco-estate in Camarones, a coastal town in Argentina's Chubut province in Patagonia, has opened volunteer applications for a free oceanfront stay.
Volunteers accepted into the scheme will spend between 25 days and two months living on the historic property in exchange for providing about 30 hours of work each week, Hungarian travel publication Startlap Utazás reported.
The estate sits directly on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Organisers are seeking solo travellers or couples between the ages of 22 and 60 to assist with daily operations on the grounds.
Volunteer duties and perks in Camarones
The volunteer program structures the work schedule into two daily shifts, requiring roughly two hours of assistance in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. Participants receive one day off per week to rest or explore the local area.
Daily responsibilities cover a range of practical tasks across the property, including preparing and serving meals, caring for farm animals, helping in the garden, sowing and harvesting crops, and performing minor repair and construction work.
In return for their assistance, volunteers receive full room and board, including daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are also provided with access to an equipped kitchen and laundry facilities, free use of bicycles, and access to select excursions and events organized in the area.
Location and travel expenses
The host location features infrastructure that sets it apart from typical tourist accommodation. The historic estate includes a biodynamic vegetable garden, domestic chickens, and an adjacent vineyard.
Camarones is located in Chubut, a province in southern Argentina known for its coastal scenery and sparse population. Roughly 28 kilometres from the town lies the Cabo Dos Bahias nature reserve, a protected area where visitors can observe Magellanic penguins, native guanacos, and various marine and shore animals.
Organisers emphasised that the opportunity is not a fully funded holiday. Successful applicants must pay for their own flights, health insurance, and transport to Camarones. The town is situated in a remote area, with the nearest major airports located approximately 250 kilometres away.

The Argentine program is part of a growing trend of international volunteer opportunities in rural and coastal locations, news agency UNIAN reported.
In Italy, a countryside villa recently advertised free lodging in exchange for maintaining the estate, managing gardens, and caring for domestic animals. However, critics online condemned the listing, asserting that the workload resembled full-time employment without financial compensation.
In Greece, the non-profit organization Syros Cats is advertising volunteer positions for 2027 on the island of Syros in the Cyclades. The organization offers free accommodation and breakfast to volunteers who work five days a week for a few hours each day, carrying out tasks such as feeding, administering medical treatments, caring for rescued animals, and maintaining shelter order.
