Luxury overwater villas inspired by resorts in the Maldives are expanding globally, offering travelers private sea bungalows from £94 a night.
While private bungalows suspended over the Indian Ocean frequently cost thousands of pounds per night before factoring in long-haul flights, competing accommodation options have emerged across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas favored by travelers seeking honeymoon style luxury at lower prices.
Overwater villas are stilt-supported structures built directly over bodies of water, providing guests with private sundecks and direct sea access. Originally popularized in tropical island archipelagos, the architectural style combines full resort amenities with secluded aquatic settings.
