Sexologist Odilia Valiente has stated that individuals can continue having sex past 100 years of age during an appearance on Argentine television.
Valiente made the comments while appearing in the studio of Mediodía Noticias, a news program broadcast on the El Trece television network in Argentina.
She appeared alongside a 92-year-old Argentine woman who was invited to the studio specifically for a regular segment dedicated to the country's oldest residents.
During the broadcast, the 92-year-old guest stated that she and her husband love having sex. She explained that if a person does nothing, life will pass them by, adding that life must be enjoyed.

Senior Intimacy and Biological Limits
Responding to the guest's comments, Valiente said that everyone should approach life with that same mindset. She noted that while society might find sexual activity among elderly people unusual or strange, it is becoming increasingly common to see older adults living in this manner.
Valiente stressed that people are capable of engaging in sex until the very last moment of their lives. She explained that aging does not impose an automatic limit on intimacy because sexual desire remains present as people grow older.
To demonstrate that advanced age is no barrier, Valiente shared that she currently treats a 103-year-old female client who continues to maintain an active sex life.
El Trece, one of Argentina's major free-to-air television networks based in Buenos Aires, frequently features health and lifestyle discussions on its daily news programming. Clinical sexology focuses on human sexual behavior across all stages of life, including healthy aging and senior relationships.
Medical research into longevity shows that romantic engagement and physical touch contribute to psychological wellbeing among older adults. Experts note that emotional intimacy often remains an important component of personal health throughout old age.
Health Considerations in Later Life
While encouraging senior intimacy, Valiente emphasized that planning a sex life in extreme old age requires taking specific health nuances into account. She highlighted chronic medical conditions and ongoing drug treatments as key factors that elderly individuals must consider.
Many adults over the age of 80 manage chronic health issues such as hypertension, heart disease, or joint stiffness, which require regular medication. Doctors typically advise older patients to monitor physical strain and consult medical professionals about how prescription drugs might affect physical activity.
The conversation follows previous medical commentary by sexologist Sarah Mulindwa regarding physical reactions to intimacy. Mulindwa had earlier warned women that headaches can sometimes occur as an unpleasant side effect following climax.
Valiente concluded that while chronic health management remains essential for older adults, age alone does not prevent individuals from enjoying romantic relationships late into life.
