Actress Nicole Kidman has recalled feeling overwhelmed by loneliness on the night she won her Academy Award for Best Actress in 2003.
Speaking on the Therapuss podcast on Thursday, September 10, the 59-year-old star admitted that despite reaching the pinnacle of her professional career, returning home after the ceremony left her feeling deeply isolated.
Kidman earned the gold statuette for her portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in the drama film The Hours.
She explained that while holding the highest honor in the film industry, she realized she needed to make changes in her personal life.
The actress recalled that although her mother and father accompanied her during the celebration, she found herself wondering where her partner was and who she could share the achievement with. She noted feeling both immense gratitude for the award and a profound sense of solitude.
When asked to select a single word to describe her mood during that period, Kidman answered that she felt strange. She shared that she had longed to be held in someone's arms and to have a presence in her life that felt grounded and real.
