Streaming platforms are adding a wide slate of new movies this week, with Movistar Plus+, Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, SkyShowtime and Filmin all releasing titles between August 24 and 30, 2026, spanning horror, true crime, romance and documentary.
Movistar Plus+ opens the week with a double premiere
Movistar Plus+, the Spanish streaming and pay-TV service owned by Telefónica, opens the week on August 24 with two premieres. The first is La maldición de Shelby Oaks (The Curse of Shelby Oaks), which follows a woman's desperate search for her missing sister. Her hunt turns into an obsession once she discovers that a demon is involved in the disappearance.
The platform's second release that day is EEUU: La nueva economía mundial (USA: The New World Economy), a documentary examining the economic policies pursued by United States President Donald Trump, who returned to the White House for a second term in January 2025.
Netflix adds a kidnapping thriller
On Netflix, one of the world's largest subscription streaming services, the standout addition is Susurran tu nombre (They Whisper Your Name). The film centres on a widowed crime novelist who is forced to ask his estranged father, a retired police inspector, for help after the writer's eight-year-old son is kidnapped. The search soon reveals an unsettling connection to a serial killer convicted decades earlier and known as the Whispering Man.
HBO Max reunites Zendaya and Robert Pattinson
HBO Max, the streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, premieres El drama (The Drama) on August 27. Zendaya plays Emma and Robert Pattinson plays Charlie, a couple in what appears to be an idyllic relationship who are days away from marrying. Unexpected revelations upend what each believed they knew about the other, turning what should have been a joyful occasion into genuine drama. Zendaya is known for her roles in Euphoria and the Dune films, while Pattinson has starred in the Twilight saga and more recently played Batman.
Hamnet arrives on SkyShowtime
SkyShowtime adds Hamnet to its catalogue on August 24. The film adapts Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name, which imagines the life of William Shakespeare's family and the death of his young son, and is directed by Chloé Zhao.
Every new movie streaming August 24-30
Beyond these headline premieres, several other platforms are refreshing their catalogues this week. Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service, adds Sunrise: El último amanecer on August 26 and Turbulencias on August 28. Filmin, a Spanish platform focused on independent and arthouse cinema, adds La desaparición de Josef Mengele (The Disappearance of Josef Mengele) on August 28. Netflix is also adding Secretos del deporte: El testimonio de Vince Young, a documentary about the former American football quarterback, on August 25, and La muerte de la esposa del pastor on August 26. Movistar Plus+ rounds out its week with Sorry, Baby on August 25, California Schemin' on August 27, Turno de noche on August 28 and Hellboy: El hombre retorcido on August 30, while HBO Max adds Los justos on August 30.
