Streaming service Netflix has released Blood Sacrifice, a five-episode Swedish suspense noir thriller created by George Kay and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm. The series stars Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson as police officers forced together during a dark summer in Stockholm.
The plot opens with an emergency call to 112 at 1:15 am on a Friday, reporting a suspected break-in at a summer house in the Stockholm archipelago. Two responding officers find nothing suspicious, but both are found brutally murdered the following day, triggering a wave of violence across the capital.
Panic spreads through the city and the police force as a serial murderer targets officers in brutal, ruthless attacks with ritualistic elements. The killings unfold during Sweden's darkest hour, establishing a terrifying pattern aimed directly at law enforcement.
Murder investigation in Stockholm
Inspector Thomas Berg, played by Jakob Oftebro, is assigned to lead the high-stakes homicide investigation. After completing initial inquiries, Berg decides to conduct the case in secret alongside a specialized team.
When Berg realizes that the killer matches a specific profile, he is forced to seek assistance from his estranged father, Alfred Berg, played by Peter Andersson. Alfred is a retired veteran officer, and the two men share a distant and conflict-ridden relationship.
Creator George Kay is best known for writing the hit Netflix heist series Lupin and Apple TV's real-time drama Hijack, while director Kristoffer Nyholm has built a reputation across Scandinavian television. Oftebro and Andersson lead a Scandinavian cast, portraying a troubled family dynamic where the son struggles to surpass his father.
The series avoids displaying the brutal murders as they happen on screen, showing the crime scenes only in photographs during the final episode. Director Nyholm intended from the start for the viewer's sense of repulsion to stem from their own imagination as officers describe the horror of each case.
