Streaming platform Netflix has officially announced Arrivals, a new spin-off series expanding the universe of supernatural drama Manifest from creator Jeff Rake.
The project was unveiled on August 28 at 8:28 a.m. Pacific Time, serving as a direct reference to Flight 828, the central element of the original show's plot.
The new drama begins when a mysterious airplane makes an emergency landing in Denver. All passengers survive the landing, but none of them remember who they are, where they came from, or what they were doing on board.
A young social worker and a rookie Homeland Security agent lead the investigation, working alongside the survivors to determine what happened. As the investigation deepens, the characters discover that their arrival is linked to a potential catastrophe capable of endangering all of humanity.
Mystery of the Denver landing
The passengers themselves form part of the mystery they are attempting to solve. The premise maintains a core element of the original show by placing ordinary people in the middle of inexplicable events with high-stakes consequences.
Jeff Rake, creator of the original series, is helming the new project. Rake explained that when the concept of a missing plane first occurred to him, he never anticipated where the story would lead, adding that what began as an unusual idea grew into a global story that connected with millions of viewers.
He also highlighted the critical role Netflix played in the survival of Manifest. The original show premiered on the American television network NBC in 2018, centered on Montego Air Flight 828.
History of the original series
In the original storyline, the aircraft landed safely in New York after experiencing turbulence, but the passengers discovered that more than five years had passed during their flight and that their families had presumed them dead.
Upon returning home, the survivors had to rebuild their lives while experiencing strange visions and urges that connected them to a growing mystery. NBC broadcast Manifest for three seasons before cancelling it before Rake could deliver his intended conclusion.
Netflix saved the series following strong interest from its subscribers, ordering a fourth and final season divided into two parts to allow the creators to complete the narrative arc.

Rake noted that Netflix enabled the team to finish the journey and give fans the ending they deserved. He stated that the world of Manifest has more stories to tell, adding that offering fans a new mystery from that world was beyond his wildest dreams.
According to Rake, the creative team aims to produce a bold, surprising, and deeply human show built around major ideas designed to generate conversation. The series is intended to work both for fans of the original four seasons and for viewers who have never seen Manifest before.
Netflix has not yet announced the cast, release date, or additional production details for Arrivals. It remains unconfirmed whether characters from the original series will appear or if the connection will be limited to shared universe lore.
