Netflix has postponed two of its highest profile upcoming movies, Here Comes the Flood and Saturn Return, pushing their release dates into 2027.
Both feature films carried star-studded ensembles and were initially slated to debut on the streaming platform during the final months of 2026.
Schedule changes are a recurring reality in film distribution, where production delays, post-production bottlenecks, and strategic calendar placement frequently force streaming services to alter release plans. Netflix, the global streaming entertainment service, faces similar scheduling pressures despite the high profile of its creative teams and cast members.
Here Comes the Flood
The first delayed title is Here Comes the Flood, described as one of the streaming platform's most ambitious projects due to its high-profile cast and creative team. Directed by Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles, who previously helmed City of God and The Two Popes, the screenplay was written by Simon Kinberg.
The film is an unconventional heist thriller centred on a bank guard, a teller, and a professional thief who become wrapped up in a dangerous game of deception and double-crosses. Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and British actor Robert Pattinson head an ensemble cast that also features Daisy Edgar-Jones, Danai Gurira, Sean Harris, Moises Arias, and Justin Kirk.
Principal photography for Here Comes the Flood concluded in early 2026. However, post-production scheduling complications prevented the movie from fitting into Netflix's release slate for the final months of 2026, which is already heavily crowded with other titles. Netflix has not announced a specific premiere date, though all indications point to a 2027 debut.
Saturn Return
Also pushed back to 2027 is Saturn Return, the latest film from director Greg Kwedar following his work on the acclaimed drama Sing Sing. Set in Chicago, Illinois, the romantic drama follows several characters over a ten-year span, tracking their evolution from the optimism and intensity of college love into the complexities of adult life.
The drama features a prominent central cast led by Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan, and Will Poulter, alongside supporting performances from David Morse, Jean Yoon, and Kim Dickens. Brosnahan is known for her award-winning television roles, while Melton has earned critical recognition for recent dramatic film roles.
Production on Saturn Return wrapped in October 2025. Although the project had been considered a potential contender for the upcoming awards season, Netflix ultimately chose to move the title to 2027. As with Here Comes the Flood, a firm release date in 2027 has not yet been set.
