Psychologist-sexologist Milana Sokolova, director of the Secrets center for family and sex education, told Lenta.ru that spontaneous sex is not always better than planned sex. She refuted this widespread belief about intimacy in a conversation with the publication.

Sokolova noted that spontaneous sex has strong points, as surprise stimulates the release of the pleasure hormone dopamine and sharpens sensations. However, she said spontaneity requires an ideal alignment of circumstances where neither partner is tired and both desire sex, which rarely happens in real life. Striving only for spontaneous encounters can leave a couple without intimacy for weeks, the psychologist emphasized.
Benefits of planned sex
She assured that planned sex also offers distinct advantages. According to Sokolova, planning creates anticipation that heightens arousal, while agreeing on a specific day allows partners to relax and lower anxiety.
Couples practicing planned intimacy rate its quality just as high, the sexologist said, noting that multiple studies support this finding. She added that spontaneous sex driven by a sense of duty is worse than any planned encounter, while planned intimacy that both partners look forward to can be fantastic.
Sokolova previously spoke about the main mistakes people make when using sex toys. She stated that erotic accessories sometimes merely create an illusion of well-being instead of enriching a couple's intimate life.
