Melanie Chisholm asked Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell not to wear white to her July 18 wedding to model Chris Dingwall, Chisholm revealed.
The 52-year-old singer, known as Sporty Spice, married Dingwall in the lakeside grounds of The Country House Cumbria in the Lake District. Chisholm wore an elegant bridal gown designed by Victoria Beckham, who missed the ceremony due to World Cup duty in the United States.
Halliwell arrived in a £2,000 white, floor-length floral two-piece by Australian designer Zimmermann, standing out alongside guests Emma Bunton in a pink checked trouser suit and Melanie Brown in a peach-toned mini dress. Chisholm later confirmed on Australian radio station KIIS 1065 that she had spoken with Halliwell before the ceremony about her outfit choice.
"I did have a little chat with Geri because it is her favourite colour," Chisholm said on air. "She wears it every day. But she had a beautiful floral dress on and it was white-white. I did have a little giggle with her about that."
Reactions to the wedding outfit
Private snide comments were made on the wedding day about Halliwell's choice, though many guests initially shrugged it off as "Geri being Geri." However, friends of the band members expressed frustration over Halliwell's decision to wear white despite Chisholm's explicit request.
"Mel has always been very tolerant of Geri," one source said. "But really, she is far, far too tolerant. Mel is lovely, she’s kind and she would do anything for Geri, yet Geri couldn’t just wear a different colour for the day."

Speaking on Jessie Ware's podcast Table Manners, Halliwell explained that wearing white serves as a daily uniform. "I looked at a lot of guys, and they always wear the same thing," Halliwell said, citing Apple founder Steve Jobs and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. "Whether it’s Steve Jobs, the Facebook guy, you know, they all wear the same thing, like a uniform. I thought, 'Well, actually, how much time do you use getting ready?'"
Halliwell added that wearing white feels "like wearing a school uniform as an adult" and gives her calm and control while looking like she made an effort. She recently admitted, "There’s a power in covering up, I didn’t realise that, I don’t need to overshare." A source noted Halliwell is a survivor who was raised by a single mother and fought for everything she has achieved.

Halliwell married Horner in May 2015 wearing a bespoke white satin gown by designer Phillipa Lepley. The couple lives on a £45million estate with its own stables on the Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire border with Halliwell's daughter Bluebell, 20, and their son Monty, nine.

Horner denied the allegations and Red Bull dismissed them, but he ultimately resigned as chief executive officer in July last year while Halliwell stood by him. Meanwhile, Chisholm continues her marriage with Dingwall, who is thought to be in his 40s, after the couple met on the exclusive dating app Raya in 2023.
