Greek authorities have arrested a 44-year-old Greek national for intentional arson in Kefalonia after a fire broke out in the Pastra area late on Saturday night, August 1, at 23:21.
The blaze has burned more than 6,000 stremmata, or roughly 600 hectares, of land. Investigators from the Argostoli Fire Service, operating under the Arson Crimes Directorate, determined that the suspect allegedly started the fire using an open flame.
The man was arrested under flagrante delicto procedures in cooperation with Greek Police, following prosecutorial orders. A case file has been opened against him for intentional arson.
The Fire Service said the suspect had previously drawn the attention of authorities in connection with arson cases and had been convicted, serving a sentence for related acts.
