The animated feature film Luntik: The Reverse Side of the Moon took top spot at the cinema box office across Russia and the CIS countries after generating 95.8 million rubles over the weekend. The figure covers ticket sales recorded between August 27 and August 30, according to data published by industry tracking website kinobusiness.com.
Directed by Darina Schmidt, the movie follows Luntik, who lives with his mother on the Moon and often visits friends on Earth. When he discovers that his father has mysteriously vanished on the far side of the Moon, Luntik refuses to wait for his return and sets off on a search alongside his friend, the grasshopper Kuzya.
Voice roles in the animated project are performed by Anna Slynko, Yulia Zorkina, Oleg Kulikovich, Valery Smekalov, Yulia Rudina and Maria Tsvetkova.
Action and fantasy titles follow
Second place in the box office chart went to the action film Rebellion, which collected 81.8 million rubles over the four-day period. The plot follows Cole Reed, a former police officer and special forces veteran working as chief of security for a major businessman. When unknown assailants murder his boss, Reed vows to track down and punish the killers.
The film features a cast led by English action star Jason Statham, alongside Annabelle Wallis, Adrian Lester, Ramon Tikaram and Arnas Fedaravicius.
Third position was taken by The Last Warrior: Kolobok, directed by Anton Maslov, which earned 78.6 million rubles. The story follows Kolobok, a character based on traditional Slavic fairytale folklore, who decides to change his destiny. After a chance event connects him with an unlucky baker named Tikhon, the duo must navigate a series of dangerous adventures to save themselves and find their place in the world.
Main roles in the fantasy film are performed by Dmitry Zhuravlev, Gosha Kutsenko, Mila Ershova, Tatyana Dogileva, Kirill Zaitsev and Dmitry Kolchin. Cinema earnings across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States were reported by news agency TASS.
