Lindsay Lohan has reunited with Mean Girls director Mark Waters to film scenes for their new Netflix romance Return to You at the original Heron house.

Lindsay Lohan Returns to Mean Girls House for Netflix Film

Lindsay Lohan has returned to film at the former Heron family house from Mean Girls more than 20 years after the comedy was released.

The actress, 40, was joined at the location by director Mark Waters, 62, who directed the original 2004 teen movie. The pair have reunited to make a new romantic film titled Return to You for Netflix.

Waters shared news of the production on social media, writing that he was reuniting at the scene of the crime with Lohan. He explained that the first day of filming for Return to You took place at the former Heron house from Mean Girls.

Filming at the Heron Home

In Mean Girls, Lohan played Cady Heron, a newcomer who had just moved to a new town and school. Waters directed the project, which became a defining hit for both the filmmaker and his young lead actress.

Their latest movie, Return to You, is a new romantic production for Netflix. The film is set in 2008, following a powerful but lonely lawyer who mistakenly receives an emotional DVD from a dying woman that was addressed to the woman's husband.

The return to the filming location follows another recent moment where Lohan revisited the classic comedy. The actress recreated the iconic scene from the film where Aaron Samuels, played by Jonathan Bennett, asks Cady Heron what day it was.

Commenting on the dialogue, which remains widely remembered by fans to this day, Lohan noted that on October 3 he asked her what day it was.

The Legacy of Mean Girls

Originally premiering in 2004, the plot of Mean Girls follows Cady Heron as she meets a group of popular girls who rule their high school, led by Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams. The comedy became one of the biggest pop culture phenomena of all time.

The movie helped cement Lohan as one of the most prominent young stars in Hollywood, following earlier successes including The Parent Trap and the comedy Freaky Friday, which was also directed by Waters.

McAdams similarly launched a major screen career following her portrayal of the calculating queen bee. In the decades since its release, the film has inspired a Broadway musical adaptation, a 2024 musical movie, and an annual celebration among fans every October.

A Netflix Partnership

Return to You continues Lohan's ongoing creative partnership with Netflix. The streaming platform has become the primary home for the actress's recent career resurgence, having previously released her romantic comedies Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish.

With cameras now rolling, Return to You reunites Lohan and Waters on set more than two decades after their original collaboration, beginning work on their new romance at the very house where Cady Heron once lived.
