5 original outings to end the summer in style

Spain is one of the countries where you can find a greater diversity of landscapes: beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes, charming towns or large cities. But this summer, due to the high temperatures, which seem to have fallen irreparably, is a good time to discover destinations where you can enjoy more pleasant temperatures, far from the stifling heat and much more original. Yescapa tells us where to find these almost exceptional places to fully enjoy the rest of the summer. Watch out for these destinations!

Stone Monastery, Nuevalos, Zaragoza

It is one of the most impressive natural monuments in Spain, where water becomes the protagonist and shows its magic to everyone who comes close. Located near the municipality of Nuévalos, this unique place allows you to visit the monastery, an austere construction with more than 800 years of history, which has the charm of Cistercian architecture. The beautiful cloister gives way to other rooms of equal beauty, such as the kitchen, the chapter house, the Cillería or the Calefactorio. The historic garden also stands out, with an incredible biological wealth with old trees, where paths and trails intersect with waterfalls, streams, lakes and caves. The Piedra River, for its part, gives life to an exuberant space, where the traveler can enjoy nature in its purest state.

Picos de Europa

If you like hiking, climbing and rural tourism, this is your destination. Between Cantabria, Asturias and León is this park of great beauty where you can admire incredible landscapes. In the Asturian part lies a unique enclave: the Covadonga Lakes. These are three glacial lagoons, more than a thousand meters high, which can be bridged without much effort. From the Mirador de La Reina you can enjoy incredible views of Cangas de Onís, in addition to visiting charming towns such as Cabrales, Sames, Peñamellera Alta and Peñamellera Baja.

Urdaibai, Busturialdea Region, Biscay

Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1984, the heart is formed by the Oka River, which rises on Mount Oiz and becomes an estuary upon reaching Mundaka, creating spectacular swamps. Among the most beautiful and unique beaches, Laida and Laga, located next to the Ogoño rock, stand out, with a unique structure. You will find endless viewpoints such as San Pedro de Atxarre in Ibarrangelu and San Miguel de Ereñozar in Ereño. You can also visit towns like Bermeo, Elantxobe or Mundaka, but if you prefer to see nature in all its splendor, don’t miss the Santimamiñe Caves with spectacular cave paintings.

Fuente Dé, Liébana Valley, Cantabria

Within the Picos de Europa Natural Park, but in the Cantabrian area, Fuente Dé deserves a separate mention for its incomparable beauty and is also an excellent destination to escape the heat. Don’t miss the funicular ride, located in the heart of the park in the Liébana Valley, which reaches a drop of 800 meters and climbs to more than 1800 meters high. Once up there you can admire the famous Mirador del Cable and take routes through the mountains such as the Aliva passes. Another area that should not be missed on your route is the La Hermida gorge. The 21 km long winding road, which crosses the Ándara massif, is located next to the Deva River, which runs parallel to the steep walls with slopes of 600 meters.

Irati Forest, Navarra

This wooded area is located on the border between Spain and France, in the Navarrese Pyrenees, with the beautiful town of Ochagavía as its gateway. It is considered the second largest beech forest in Europe, after the German Black Forest, and takes its name from the Irati River. An exceptional setting to walk through the Aezkoa Valleys, contemplate the Aribe Suspension Bridge, follow the Hórreos route, take a walk through the Irabia Reservoir or visit the Arpea Cave.
