Supermodel Kate Moss admitted that she didn’t think she was “modelling material” after she was first discovered – and she agreed with her mom that she wasn’t photogenic.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the 48-year-old model told Lauren Laverne that her mother, Linda, was surprised when she got home and was discovered by a modeling agency.
When Lauren asked her if she knew what she looked like growing up in Croydon, South London, the model replied: “No, no. Absolutely not.’

Kate said she and her mother agreed that they could “try” to succeed in the fashion industry.
“I certainly didn’t think I was a role model,” she said.
As a tribute to her parents, Kate chose to play King Curtis’s Pale of Whiter Shade, in which her mother Linda and father Peter go down the aisle for an organ composition of the song.
Later on the show, Kate said it was a “dark time” for her when her parents divorced when she was 13.
Kate, who prefers to live with her father while living with her mother and brother Nick, said the siblings usually only see each other at school.
She added that the split in the family derailed her and she began dating older men who took her to London bars.
“I started drinking interaction and hanging out with people much older than me, much older guys who looked after me and protected me,” Kate said.
“They used to take me to London by train. I would change my school uniform and go to Fred. [a bar in Soho]. I didn’t even like the taste of alcohol.

Kate also revealed to Desert Island Discs host Lauren Laverne that she started smoking “spliff” at the age of 13 after her parents separated.

Kate talked about her early days as a model, including the horrific experience she had when she was 15 years old when she tried to remove a photographer’s bra from her bra catalog.
“I used to drink Long Island Ice Teas because it didn’t taste like alcohol, but it’s obviously a strong drink.”
The model also made some shocking statements about her early days as a model, where she had a terrible experience at the age of 15.
She told BBC Radio 4: “I had a terrible experience for a bra catalogue. And that’s when I was really shy about my body.
“And she said, ‘Take off your bra,’ and I felt something was wrong, so I grabbed my stuff and ran. I think it developed my instincts. I would say “a mile away” the wrong thing.
