In the footsteps of his father: what the sons of famous rappers look like and what they do

Ice Cube, Eazy-E, Big Pun – these cult musicians made a huge contribution to hip-hop. And the sons decided that they could repeat the success of their father.

Not everyone has succeeded (read: none), but kids don’t give up and believe they’re about to become hip-hop legends, movie legends, or documentary movie legends about their star parents.

Each of them chose his own way to conquer show business: someone uses his father’s reputation, connections and money, and someone, on the contrary, tries not to associate his name and work with famous parents. He collected the brightest children of hip-hop icons.

O’Shea Jackson, better known as Ice Cube, is a talented musician and father of four. The two followed in their parents’ footsteps and became rappers. In music, O’Shea Jackson Jr., whom many remember under the pseudonym OMG, tried himself alongside his brother Darrell Jackson or Doughboy. Both debuted with their father’s songs “Couldn’t Do It On His Own” and “Y’all Know How I Am”.

Unfortunately, the solo career of the young rapper was not as successful as that of the star father. Almost nothing is known about Darrell Jackson. He left show business after an unsuccessful attempt to build a musical career. However, his brother O’Shea Jackson Jr. it still somehow clings and shows itself not only in music but also in movies.

It was he who played his father in the movie “Voice of the Streets”, and in 2018 he appeared in the TV series “Drunk Story”. Critics liked his play, so the directors quickly began offering O’Shea Jackson to make a movie. It is known about his other projects: in 2023, the movie Cocaine Bear will be released with him.

Will Smith

In general, Will Smith has all the talented children – both daughter Willow, who released songs at an early age, and son Jayden. The latter began as an actor – at the age of 8 he starred with his star father in the movie “In Search of Happiness”, and in 2010 he played a major role in the movie “Karate Boy” (with Jackie Chan himself, by the way!). Then Jayden switched to music – he recorded a joint song with Justin Bieber and began to create solo compositions. And he immediately met with hatred – fans began to condemn him for impersonating Will Smith.

Such reviews severely affected Jayden’s self-confidence, and he fell into a recession. After overhauling his work, Smith returned triumphantly with the album Syre in 2017. No one dared to talk about impersonating his father. Recently, Jayden continues to make music – new demos and clips appear occasionally on his YouTube channel.

Easy

The “father of gangster rap” died in 1995, but his music continues to live on without the help of the children of the cult musician. Eazy-E is known to have left seven children, but only one of them followed in the footsteps of the pope. Eric Darnell Wright decided to rap and go by the pseudonym Lil Eazy-E. At various times the musician has played in Static Major, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

True, for many, Lil Eazy-E’s music seemed raw and irrelevant – fans of his father’s work shamelessly criticized his son for using the image of Eazy-E. It seems that the rapper understood everything and retrained from a musician to producers – he founded the music label NWA Entertainment.

In addition to creativity, Eric Darnell Wright engages in social activities and helps HIV-positive patients. Recall that his father, Eazy-E, died of AIDS.

27-year-old Tremaine Marcell Joyner (aka Tre Capital) is the eldest son of rapper Xzibit and, unlike the previous heroes of our material, tries to avoid words about a star father. The man climbs the musical Olympus on his own – without parental connections and money.

Treiman started in 2014 – then an unknown rapper uploaded his first songs on SoundCloud and did not hope to become famous. It took four years to be noticed. Treiman was in no hurry – he uploaded his first EPs to the platform, got a job as an intern at Kanye West’s music label GOOD Music, and just released his debut album, Hero, in 2018. After that, almost nothing is heard about the rapper. But we believe this hardworking man will show everyone. At the very least, his regular social media shoots show the studio is preparing something strong.

Big Punk

This curly-haired man is the son of another iconic musician from the 1990s. We’re talking about Big Pun – he’s literally a big guy. He is often referred to as one of the greatest MCs of all time – and remembered for his rapping incredible lyrics and emotional delivery.

Is the son musically similar to him? Actually, there are common features. Chris Rivers is a freestyle master. But, unfortunately, very few people know about the rapper. The musician himself is partly to blame. She initially took the pseudonym Baby Pun, but began performing under her own name due to constant comparisons with her father. The result is seven albums (EP and full versions). And although the guy has been singing since he was eight years old, not everyone knows about them.

Master P

Musician, actor, producer, athlete Romeo Miller is not the son of rapper and producer Master P, he signed his first contract at the age of five (!) to his father. However, a little later he began to give concerts and record compositions – at the age of 11. And it immediately entered the Billboard chart for a cover of Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”. And then he started his fast career.

In the period from 2001 to 2006, “Romeo!” in a TV series about his life. He recorded four albums and sang the cartoon “Oh, these guys”. All these projects were produced by Romeo’s father, Master P. Who would doubt that!

True, as Romeo aged, his father-producer devoted less time to him. Maybe he just got tired of wasting his time showing off work? Now he’s busy with his family – Romeo recently had a daughter and is obsessed with his father’s household chores.

Demetrius Gray, the son of popular rapper Juvenile, has been singing since he was ten years old. He showed his musical talent for the first time in 2009 when his father recorded the song “It’s All Hood”. “I wanted to play basketball, but I quickly realized that the soul is in rap,” he once said in an interview. Dad helped the young talent enter the world of rap culture. The musician has several albums and joint recordings with hip-hop stars, for example, with Lil Wayne.

Meanwhile, Juvenile is very worried about her son’s future. This may be because at one time in the rapper’s life there was a tragedy: in 2008, his stepson shot his two sisters. One of them was the rapper’s blood daughter. This incident shocked Juvenile so much that she decided to invest all her time and energy in raising her remaining child – Demetrius Grey.

LB Beach

Handsome Quincy Brown is the son of rapper LB Shore. True, she was brought up by another musician – P.Diddy, who, after her divorce from LB Shore, married Quincy Brown’s mother.

Quincy is the only person on our list who doesn’t connect her life with music. More precisely, she sometimes sings, but only for movie roles. He devotes the rest of his time to the cinema. His first film, We Are the Party, was released in 2012. After that, Brown starred in several more romantic comedies – and fell in love with the entire female gender.

Cinema is not limited. He is the founder of the production company FourXample, creator of the Chalk by Quincy track line and the Fresh Crop mobile image editing app.
