The Queen was photographed brightening her eyes as she participated in an armed forces parade in Edinburgh today.
His Highness, 96, enlisted in the army at Holyroodhouse Palace on the occasion of the platinum medal anniversary in Scotland.
The appearance came when Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon was intent on announcing her plans for a second referendum. This afternoon he will reveal how he plans to proceed with a second Scottish independence vote, with or without Boris Johnson’s approval.
However, despite the possible constitutional crisis, the queen looked cheerful when photographed during the celebrations.
And now carrying his customary cane, a video of the monarch’s arrival showed him getting off the train alone, suggesting that his mobility might be good at this point.

Her 96-year-old Majesty was photographed carrying a walking stick during today’s appearance, but was still seen radiantly.

Today’s Loyalty Parade (pictured) is just one part of a full week of real events taking place in Scotland this week.
Today’s celebrations included a parade and the presentation of the Edinburgh Castle key in the palace gardens.
The army, navy and air force were represented on duty, and the royal salute was given upon the queen’s arrival in the gardens.
Lord Lyon, the king of arms, then presented three high-ranking representatives of the services to the queen.
Joined by three students representing each service, they will then parade through the gardens before handing the key to Edinburgh Castle to Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, Governor of Edinburgh Castle.

Her Majesty wore a lavender coat with large ox-blood buttons and a matching hat with the same button details for today’s Scottish look.

Today’s ceremony, in the presence of the queen (pictured), is part of the monarch’s traditional trip to Scotland for Holyrood week.
The major general then turned to the queen. The delivery of the key to Edinburgh Castle and an act of loyalty marked the 200th anniversary of King George IV’s visit to Scotland in 1822.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Crown Princess will present the honor in a ceremony at the palace.
Among those who will be recognized are James McGoldrick, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Ross McEwan, CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The Queen is reportedly always fond of Scotland, and photos appear to show the 96-year-old girl in a good mood.

Smiling: Sovereign widely condemned as he shakes hands with members of the military

It seemed that His Majesty was now carrying his usual walking stick and one of his classic black shoulder bags.
These celebrations precede a speech planned by Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon this afternoon.
The SNP leader is expected to announce plans to hold another independence referendum in October, with or without Westminster approval.
Any new votes will follow the 2014 referendum, which both parties describe as “once in a generation”.

Nicholas Sturgeon is expected to outline his plans to hold another independence referendum in October next year, with or without Westminster approval, in a statement to Holyrood today.
However, after the Scots voted 55-54 to join the union, Nicola Sturgeon returned to vote, sparking criticism that she had an “obsession” with independence and should focus on the cost of the livelihood crisis.
Today, however, the politician must claim that his party’s victory in the Holyrood election has given him re-voting power.
