Proposals are often intimate moments that take weeks or even months of planning.

Not everyone likes it to happen in public, while others prefer it to be kept fairly subtle.

Now a man is puzzled as to why his brother is mad at him for asking the question at their wedding.

The anonymous, American, turned to Reddit to explain how his brother’s new wife got mad at his gesture.

He said: “We were alone, no one was paying attention to us because there were 100 people there.

“I just asked him ‘so, sunset beach … will you marry me?

“He said yes, we laughed a lot, took a selfie together and walked slowly back to the reception venue.”

The man went on to say that although he didn’t reveal the news to anyone at the wedding, it came out quickly.

He added: “Two days ago my girlfriend posted this selfie on her social media and tagged me.

“She wrote a caption ‘I finally married the love of my life and proposed on the beach at sunset!’

“Now everyone who knows us knew it was a sarcastic caption and they knew it was more of a joke than anything else.”

Awkwardly, the man’s brother and his new wife called to explain how upset they were at the location.

She continued: “My sister-in-law said we made fun of her marriage with our message.

“While my brother said I’m a fool to make proposals to someone else’s wedding.”

It didn’t take long for people on Reddit to share their thoughts on the subject.

One said, “I mean, of all the ways to propose to someone else’s wedding, that’s probably the least sticky.

“Yet you would think that in 10 years together you could have found a different opportunity. Soft YTA.

However, others saw nothing wrong with it.

A Reddit user wrote: “I was ready to say you’re the asshole but you didn’t propose in front of everyone.

“You didn’t announce it at the front desk and waited two days for it to be published, so NTA.

“SIL (sister-in-law) is the one that’s ridiculous here.”

A third said: “He didn’t steal the show. All alone. Ridicule her marriage? What does it mean? NTA and congratulations! “
