
EXCLUSIVE: Asian drummer Carl Palmer spoke exclusively to the supergroup about the groundbreaking live satellite concert in 1983 and its release in a new box set.
Drummer Carl Palmer revealed that he and supergroup Asia were “nervously devastated” because “anything could go wrong” during their groundbreaking 1983 satellite concert.
The historic concert Asia: Live from the Budokan Arena in Tokyo, Japan made history when it was the first live concert between Japan and MTV America on December 6, 1983.
Speaking exclusively with, Asian drummer Carl Palmer spoke about the historic moment as the band prepares to release a deluxe box set to celebrate the concert.
“Looking at it now, it’s nice to remember it, but it was pretty scary back then,” said Carl.

“Everything could have gone wrong. We could have lost the satellite signal. We could have had comebacks on stage ”.
Despite their fears that something might go wrong, the supergroup, which includes music icons such as special guest Greg Lake, drummer Carl Palmer and Steve Howe of Yes and Geoff Downes, landed one hit after another, including Heat.
