Despite working with world stars, Denis Villeneuve is a director with strict rules. One of its bans could cost violators their jobs.

Villeneuve is uncompromising about phones on the pitch. Even silent mode is no excuse if Dune’s creator notices it on an actor or other crew member.

The director believes that smartphones are highly addictive and that cinema is an act of creation that takes place here and now. By the way, he himself leaves the gadget outside the work area.

“When an artist paints, he must focus on the color he puts on the canvas. It’s the same thing when a dancer steps. The same goes for the film crew. Everyone needs to concentrate and listen to each other. Phones are prohibited from day one. “It’s completely unacceptable for someone to run to their phone and check their social media notifications when you say ‘cut,'” he explained to the Los Angeles Times.

The manager did not specify whether any of his employees had tried to violate the ban at least once. However, it recently announced that it plans to begin shooting the third installment of the film series, based on Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, in late 2025 or 2026.
